Regular
meeting of Council was held on March 6th at the Jocelyn Municipal
Office. In attendance were Reeve Micheline Yandeau, Councillors Mavis Chisholm,
David Bates, Ron Wierzbicki and Bob Lailey. Also in attendance was the
Deputy-Clerk and Donna Schell from the press.

The St.
Joseph Island Policing Committee’s Chairperson Rick Green was in attendance to
make a presentation of a framed photo and Rural Watch hat to Reeve Yandeau to
thank her and council for their support in the Rural Watch Program. Mr. Green
noted that he was working with Marilyn Cameron, Community Service Officer from
the OPP, on a trial basis, to have any incident reports e-mailed to him daily
and in return would notify his Rural Watch contact in that area of the crime or
trouble so other residents could be advised.

we do approve Recreation Voucher 2003-02 in the amount of $1,193.15, paid out of
Recreation funds.

Randy
Gardner, Roads Project Supervisor was in attendance to give his report to
council. He noted that the hall water supply tests have been coming back with
high coliform readings. The option of a UV treatment system was considered.
Input would be sought from the Recreation Committee.
It was also
noted that ramps/jumps have been built for sliding/snowboarding on the P-Line
hill and the danger that this poses to individuals and vehicles. Council would
like to have this brought to the attention of residents by placing a notice in
the Clippings.
Randy
provided council with his recommendations for speed limits on roads within the
municipality. The classification of the roads would be changed once the signs
were installed.
Committee
updates were provided.
The St. Joseph
Island Museum will be raising their admission fee for the upcoming season to:
Adults $4.00, Seniors $3.00, 4 – 14 years $2.00, 3 years and younger – free and
for a family $10.00. They also made application for Summer Career Placement for
3 students for 14 weeks. John Carter, Museum Advisor would be called regarding
the Museum Operating Grant and to request a meeting with board members.
The Policing
Committee and Marilyn Cameron, Community Service Officer held an open house
regarding home security with tips and suggestions to crime proofing your home.
The Maple
Syrup Stampede, a ski loppet put on by Jocelyn Recreation Committee and the St.
Joseph Island Voyageurs, was a success with 45 classic and 45 skaters
participating in the cross-country ski races.
The
Recreation Committee will be holding their Irish Stew Supper on Saturday March
17th starting at 5:00 p.m. The Mountain Maple Run/Walk committee has
started to meet for the upcoming event in May.
Council was
asked for their comments on two surveys for shore road applications. Council
requested information to confirm the shore road sale process.
An Elections
Seminar is being held by AMCTO as this is an elections year. It was uncertain
if the Clerk or Deputy-Clerk would attend.

we do send an office staff to the Elections Seminar in Sault Ste. Marie on March
25, 2003 and pay the associated costs.

asked to support a resolution from Town of Northeastern Manitoulin. The
position of the Town that Manitoulin Island’s economic social fabric would be
adversely affected by the diminished water levels in Lake Huron and Michigan if
the St. Lawrence Seaway is widened and deepened.

resolution that they are in opposition to the provision of funding to the United
States Army Corps Engineering and that the further deepening of the St. Lawrence
