Nestled at the western end of Lake Huron's North Channel in the mouth of the St. Mary's River, St. Joseph Island has been a favorite stopping place of travelers for over 200 years.

The Island's location at the centre of the Great Lakes makes it a favorite destination point each year for boaters cruising the North Channel, on vacation from Michigan's ports - of - call, and for adventurers heading to Lake Superior's inland sea.

Richards Landing Municipal Marina is located on the northern end of the Island.

Boaters will find the northeastern route up the St. Joseph Channel to Richards Landing well marked.  The western route follows the international shipping channel to the Head of the Island where boater can then proceed east down the St. Joseph Channel.
