Non - profit Housing Corporation Annual Meeting

The 2002 Annual Meeting of the Township of St. Joseph Municipal Non - profit Housing Corporation will be held on Wednesday, August 28th, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. at the Dr. H. S. Trefry Memorial Centre, 1209 Catherine Street, Richards Landing, Ontario.

All residents of the Township of St. Joseph are eligible to become members of the corporation and are invited to attend this meeting.

CORNFEST WORKERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to help with Cornfest.  If you would like to help, please call the Township Office at 246 - 2625 and leave your name and number.  High school students may use this volunteer work to meet their community service requirements.

DOG COMPLAINTS

A number of complaints have been received regarding dogs barking at night.  Residents are reminded that the owner or person in control of a dog is responsible to ensure that the dog does not disturb other residents.  If a dog will not stop barking, then is must be taken inside a fully enclosed building so that it does not disturb nearby residents.

FIREARMS COMPLAINTS

Numerous complaints have been received regarding firearms being discharged along the waterfront in Richards Landing.  Residents are cautioned that the discharge of firearms in built-up areas may be dangerous and could result in charges respecting unsafe use of a firearm.

PROCLAMATION - Canada's Citizenship Week

The week of October 14 to 20, 2002 has been proclaimed as Canada's Citizenship Week in this municipality.

FLURRYFEST VOLUNTEERS

The Township of St. Joseph Recreation Committee is seeking volunteers to plan and organize events in this community in conjunction with Flurryfest.  If you can help, contact the municipal office at 246-2625.

CENTRAL ALGOMA ADULT LEARNING CENTRE

Would you or someone you know like to help with basic reading or writing skills?  These skills can be used to read books and catalogues, helping children with their homework, writing letters o balancing your chequebook.  We have our own classrooms at CASS and will set up a learning program just for you.  For more information, call Janet or Sirpa at 782-0142.

SENIOR DINERS' CLUB

Please join us for dinner on the last Tuesday of the month at the Trefry Centre.  Our diner's club features an interesting program or guest speaker followed by a family, home style cooked meal for only $6.00.  If you are interested, please call the Centre at 246-0036.

BLUE BOXES FOR RECYCLING

The municipality is taking orders for Recycling Blue Boxes.  The cost is expected to be approximately $9.00 each including taxes.  To order, please contact the Township Office at 246-2625.

SENIORS HOUSING AVAILABLE

Rent geared to income housing for low income seniors aged 65 and over is provided in Richards Landing by the Township of St. Joseph Non - profit Housing Corporation.  A limited number of market rent units are also provided.  If you or someone you know is interested in applying for such accommodation, they may do so by contacting either the Township of St. Joseph at 246 - 2625 or the Algoma District Services Administration Board 1 - 705 - 842 - 3747.

MUNICIPAL OFFICE CLOSED FOR HOLIDAYS
